Last week, the Dutch financial crew, AFM (Authority for the Financial Markets), came down with some serious crypto side-eye, calling out the pump-and-dump circus. If you’ve been lurking around altcoin markets long enough, you’ve seen the hype—a coin rockets up the charts, only to nosedive the second you buy in. Well, AFM isn’t having it anymore. Come December, it’s about to get messy with MiCAR (Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation) sliding into the game.
Pump-and-Dump—RIP to Those Schemes?
Now, let’s break it down like this: organizers hype up a random coin, feeding it to the masses like they’re serving the next Bitcoin on a silver platter. The price goes full moon mode. But then, bam! The organizers pull a Houdini, cashing out big time at the top, and leaving retail investors holding bags heavier than a moon-sized dump. That’s the name of the game—until MiCAR steps in.
The Dutch AFM peeps been on the lookout, and they dropped the news, plain and simple:
“Crypto pump-and-dump is a form of market manipulation to which investors can potentially fall victim. Organizing and participating in a pump-and-dump scheme will be banned under the new Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR).”
But it ain’t just talk—they’ve been sniffing out these pump-and-dumpers, lurking in Telegram chats, watching price spikes, and, of course, tracking the “social” side of the coin. AFM reported they already caught wind of three big cases, and let’s be honest, that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
MiCAR—The New Crypto Sheriff?
MiCAR’s rolling up on December 30, guns blazing. It’s aiming to flush out the market manipulation, pump schemes, and maybe even inject a lil’ trust back into this wild west of tokens. But let’s not kid ourselves—AFM knows even this new regulation won’t sweep up all the sketchy business in crypto town.
The watchdog had a warning for any wannabe traders out there: don’t go tossing in your rent money because “crypto trading remains highly speculative,” and MiCAR’s not going to wrap the whole scene in bubble wrap. So, play it safe—or get played.
