Parallel, the Ethereum-based NFT card battler that’s already shaking up Epic Games, is back at it—this time, they’re launching a shooter. At Token2049 in Singapore, Parallel Studios announced “Project Tau Ceti”, a 3D sci-fi first-person shooter that expands the Parallel universe on Base’s B3 network.
From Card Battler to Shooter: Parallel Levels Up
Parallel, a game that’s carved out its place in Ethereum’s card battler space, is now gunning for a new audience. They’re leaving the cards behind (well, sorta) and dropping players into a 3D shooter. And where’s this all happening? Base’s shiny new B3 network, which focuses on crypto gaming, perfect for Parallel’s next move. In Tau Ceti, you’ll be duking it out on a distant planet, wielding your Parallel NFT avatars as your in-game identity.
According to Parallel Studios, B3 was the perfect partner. They got the tech, the experience, and the hype. Plus, they’re still fresh on the scene, having launched in August with a crypto arcade platform BSMNT. And let’s not forget, they just bagged $21M in July, so they’re here to play.
Project Tau Ceti: What’s the Game Plan?
Picture this: you’re on some alien world, battling it out with enemies using Parallel’s 3D assets—characters, weapons, creatures, the works. Tau Ceti aims to be a real step up from what Parallel’s done before. A game built with Unreal Engine 5, developed with a mysterious third-party studio they haven’t named yet. While the team is still cranking out updates for their trading card game and rolling into the Alpha release of Colony, Tau Ceti is where things get serious.
The whole project actually started off small. It was just some casual brainstorming from the art team, trying to imagine what a Parallel shooter might look like. But soon, the side project snowballed. The community was all in, and Parallel doubled down on making it bigger, better, and more epic.
A Shooter Built by the Community
If you’re already into Parallel, this shooter might be your new obsession. The team is putting heavy emphasis on community-driven development, taking feedback and weaving it into the game’s DNA. Expansive environments? Check. Detailed characters? Of course. Challenging enemies and unique creatures? You bet.
And, of course, all of this is happening within Parallel’s familiar universe. Tau Ceti is using the same library of assets as their card game, but in a totally different context. It’s not just a shooter. It’s a part of the Parallel ecosystem, with its own world-building and immersive gameplay.
What’s Next for Tau Ceti?
Don’t expect to be blasting away tomorrow, though. Tau Ceti is slated to hit early alpha on PC sometime in 2025. But if things go well, you might be seeing mobile and console versions further down the line. For now, it’s all eyes on the pre-alpha trailers and whatever cryptic teasers Parallel drops next.
